317541-187476-thumbnail.jpg Little Cody was found left behind in a desolate  neighborhood near a housing project by the Superdome.  Cathy first saw skinny little Cody standing in a doorway of a house that  appeared to be disheveled inside (dirty and battered furniture and belongings strewn everywhere).  After an hour of coaxing, the timid pit bull finally came, eager to eat some food (he was so hungry, poor fella).  He was skinny, yet not dangerously so - but his body had several recent wounds and one that was still open & bloody.  Maybe he had to defend himself while trying to survive on his own for five weeks?

Back at Pasado's staging area, Cathy noticed that this sweet puppy would perk up every time she walked by.  When Cody was outside of his cage, all he wanted was to be held.  His favorite thing is to give puppy kisses to everyone.  (he might be a year old, not sure, but still very young).

Cody is a very affectionate dog and can't seem to get ENOUGH of human affection.  If you are sitting down, he likes to put his front paws on your knees and then roll his head into your tummy so that you will wrap your arms around him and hold him. (careful - this is when he sneaks in those kisses that he likes to give!)

He was found (unneutered of course) with no collar, tags or microchip - his owners do have 15 days to claim him, however it isn't likely since he was found five weeks after the hurricane and his owners didn't care enough to come looking for him any sooner.  Cody is scheduled to get neutered on October 20th.

It will be awhile after he is neutered before his hormones will go down in level - he absolutely needs to be kept away from any dogs (generally other males) who may even have a remote interest in being aggressive towards him.  He was nearly attacked by another dog and his instinct was to immediately defend himself and the instant the other dog was pulled away, poor Cody was trembling for ten minutes while someone had to hold him to comfort him and make him feel safe.  Understand that Cody has most likely been in some very traumatic situations where he was attacked (as his scars show).  As sweet and gentle as he is - he needs to be in the protective custody of people who will always watch out for his safety.  He is not a candidate for trips to the dog park or anywhere that you can not guarantee the behavior of other dogs.

Awww . . . look at this sweet face!  Don't you just want to love him?
HAPPY ENDING TO THIS STORY!  Cody got adopted by a nice woman and her little girl and is now living the life of luxury!  At night he sleeps in front of a fireplace on a bear rug in his guardian's bedroom!  Wow!  Good for you Cody, you've come a long way baby and you deserve the BEST home ever!
Dear Cody,
You will forever say in my memory and in my heart . . . thank you for allowing me on your journey with you.  You are a very special doggie and don't you ever forget it!
Love and kisses to you,
Cathy

A special thank you to Dr. Sindy Habib, DVM with Best Friends Animal Hospital, who had so generously given Cody a 30% rescue discount.
